Devizes Jubilee

IMG_5311 (3).JPG

Once upon a time.....

Devizes Jubilee Morris was founded in 2012.  Since then we have attracted comment and acclaim for our fresh, fast and entertaining style.  The majority of our dances are in the Cotswold Style, with a bit of Border Morris thrown into the mix*

So far we have performed at a range of events including Chippenham Folk Festival, The Concert at the Kings (supporting Sweet), Devizes Canal Festival and as one of the sides supporting the Demon Barber's Lock In Show.  We also host our own Day of Dance each year.  You can also see us at pubs and event around the local area. We've even danced round the veg and fish in Morrison's!

In 2019 our Apprentices won the annual Stick and Bucket Dance competition at Chippenham Folk Festival and in 2024, we were joint first place in the same competition withour dance "Bucket and Chuck It".

*For the Spotters: We dance Adderbury, Stanton Harcourt, Bucknowle, and Field Town as well as newer traditions form Lewes, Chippenham, and our own Devizes style.

The long version is that the side has its origins in Walter Rose and Son Butchers, Devizes. Our Squire Paul suggested Morris as a team building activity and the side made its debut at the town's Jubilee Fete.  Following the event people wanted to keep dancing and the rest is history......
